Forum: faqs Subject: How to change mediatype and collection of an item (for collection admins)

Example: I created an item (so I own it) under "opensource" collection and I want to move it to the "wikiteam" collection, of which I'm an admin.
I can edit all the metadata of any item in the wikiteam collection, and outside of it the mediatype/collection fields are not grayed out for me, but I still can't edit them even for items I own.
So you need to do this: while editing the xml, add another a field at the bottom, name it "collection", type the name of the collection you're admin of, save; now, when you edit the xml, the two fields above are unlocked. Alternatively, add also a new "mediatype" field and put the mediatype you want (in my example, "web"); when you save, the system will give you a red warning and won't save the changes, but will unlock the mediatype/collection fields: change them as you want, remove the additional fields at the bottom.

you don't have admin privs for opensource so you can't change the collection on that item. as an admin you can upload and crate items directly into your collection. why did you put it in opensource if you want it in your collection?

Well, sometimes I want to change metadata to old items I uploaded, or I'm lazy and I use the web interface to create the item so I'm not able to select the collection I want. It's true that using s3 is way easier.

if you are an admin of a collection you can choose that collection for the item with the http uploader.
